Impact factors for journals

BMC and SpringerOpen

A number of BMC and SpringerOpen journals have impact factors and some journals are being tracked by Clarivate Analytics and will receive their impact factor in due course. For any journal to have an impact factor it must be tracked by Clarivate Analytics for two years (for more information on how impact factors are calculated, please see clarivate page here).

To check whether a journal has an Impact Factor, and if so what that Impact Factor is, please select a journal title from the list available for BMC journals or for SpringerOpen journals.

Once on the journal website you can view the Impact Factor by clicking on 'About'; the Impact Factor will appear on the right-hand side of the page. Please see examples below:

BMC Neuroscience

Nanoscale Research Letters

Please note that if there is no impact factor stated on a Springer Nature journal's homepage then it has yet to be assigned one.

It is also worth noting that BMC has signed up to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

DORA is concerned with reducing the focus on impact factors to concentrate on improving the methods used by funding agencies, institutions and other organisations to assess the value of research output.
