Authors choosing to publish under the CC BY-NC-ND licence grant Springer Nature exclusive commercial and derivative rights, which enables Springer Nature to protect the work against piracy and infringement of the CC BY-NC-ND re-use terms that the author has chosen. As a publisher we have an expert anti-piracy team that is well-equipped to proactively identify misuse and respond quickly to address these concerns. Without exclusive rights, Springer Nature would be unable to respond to cases of infringement and inappropriate use of content, and authors would have to pursue cases of infringement themselves.
